After months and months, I have finally finished my turquoise necklace!
It wasn’t exactly how I wanted it – I had wanted to add two silver swirls to the chain, and also use the Spanish style chain. But… I discovered that the Spanish style chain is really hard to do! It needs a lot of practice to make the links exactly the same size. I will be making a lot of jump rings over the Christmas period, for good practice!
After a lot of trial and error, I switched to a basic circular jump ring – I made a total of 78 for my necklace. I didn’t get time to do the swirls. I decided it was much more important to just finish the necklace, rather than be a perfectionist! On the plus side, there’s something for me to work on for next time. Besides, it will be easy to add the swirls in at a later date, because I haven’t soldered the jump rings closed.
So finally… here is the finished piece:
I’m really happy with it! There are some obvious improvements, like finish, the bezel height and uniformity. All in all, it’s not too bad for what was my first attempt at setting a cabochon and making a chain. I’m really looking forward to designing my first collection over Christmas – ooh the ideas are starting to flow already! I’m also planning on getting myself on a polishing and finishing class at the London Jewellery School next year! Exciting times ahead!
